MARK SCHLUSSEL

Chief Executive Officer

Mark Schlussel is a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School. He has an extensive background in healthcare law and has served on the Board of Directors of numerous companies. Mr. Schlussel gained significant operational healthcare experience as the CEO of the Oakland Virtual Medical Center. Most recently, he was elected to serve as Chairman of the Oakland University Board of Trustees. Mark is a “hands on” CEO at Curus.

ROBERT KELMAN M.D., FAAEM

Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Robert Kelman is a graduate of Wayne State University School of Medicine. He is Board Certified in Emergency Medicine and holds licenses to practice medicine in Michigan, Florida, and New York. Dr. Kelman is a founding Member and Fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine. As Medical Director of Curus, Dr. Kelman consults with Members to understand their lifestyle and healthcare needs and is accessible as medical situations arise to manage the complexities of facilitating care.

HERSCHEL BLOCK

Herschel Block has an extensive background in hospital management including serving as the Chief Operating Officer of a hospital facility owned by Hospital Corporation of America. He served in strategic facility planning for a major architectural firm and as a senior consultant for a big four accounting firm. He acquired experience in operating efficiencies and reducing service and delivery costs in healthcare. Herschel’s skills in marketplace trends and the customization of service to achieve optimal efficiency and effectiveness will help bring the best quality of care to Curus’s Members.

T. G. “TIM” CONNOR, JR.

Advisor

Mr. Connor has 35 plus years of Information, Image and Data management experience within the healthcare and financial industry services sector. He is one of the founders of Affiliated Computer Services and currently serves on the Boards of IBML in Birmingham, Alabama and SilverRockHealth in Madison, NJ.

SARA AMARAL, P.A.

Lead Care Coordinator

Sara is a graduate of the University of Michigan and has a Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Wayne State University. Sara is a member of the American Academy of Physician’s Assistants and is a former clinical instructor in the Department of Public Health and Family Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine. She has over a decade of experiences as a licensed Physicians Assistant. Her extensive experience includes the responsibility for a caseload that exceeded 1,000 patients annually. 

VICTORIA CARPER

Vice President Client Services

Victoria Carper has more than 25 years in management and market development.  As the Vice President of Client Services at Curus Healthcare, she works as a member of the leadership team to develop and expand a successful business model that fills a unique niche in the field of healthcare navigation. Curus is a value-creator aimed at improving healthcare outcomes and lowering costs. For Victoria, being part of a team that helps others achieve optimal health is the most rewarding part of her role. Outside of the office, Victoria is an avid patron of the arts and enjoys exercising, cooking and her cat Mickey.

JARED A. MORT, LT. COL. USAF (RET), APRN, MSN, MBA, RN-BC, ACNS-BC

Chief Operations Officer

During his 20+ year career in the USAF, Lt Col Mort served as a clinical nurse, flight nurse, master instructor, Chief of Aircrew Training (PACAF), Clinical Nurse Specialist, and the Medical Surgical Consultant to the Surgeon General. He was deployed multiple times, most recently to a hostile Forward Operating Base in eastern Afghanistan. His leadership and development of evidence-based medicine produced a 99.8% survivability rate for wounded warriors.This high-reliability focus saved millions of dollars and thousands of lives for the USAF. His efforts are concentrated on reduction of negative patient outcomes while eliminating non-value added work with practical applications and integration of his knowledge into civilian health. He is a voting member of the National Veterans’ Health Administration Advisory Board for Compassionate Innovation.

RICK KOVACS

Advisor

Rick Kovacs is a graduate of the University of Michigan. His business career has been centered around establishing and growing small companies and start up ventures into large successful enterprises doing business on a national scope. Rick’s expertise is in sales, marketing, business development, and strategic corporate development and implementation infused with his entrepreneurial spirit.
